Do You Have a Negative State of Mind?

Stop. Have a look at the people you spend your time with, but first of all stop, and have a look at the type of person you are to other people! Pretty confronting isn’t it? However, this is an important step in your life journey.

Are you aware of the language you use in every day conversations with friends, colleagues and more importantly to yourself? Are you always speaking about what is wrong in your life or the lives of others, or are you saying one thing and meaning something completely different?  If you have fallen into the habit of always being negative or always being with someone who is negative in their speech and/or actions, you cannot help but be affected by this.

I believe that “Every day is irreplaceable, so don’t ruin yours by allowing the negative moods of others to pull you into their frame of mind”. Anon

Think of occasion right now when you have been involved in negative conversations. How did it make you feel? Were you enthusiastic about the coming day, or did it make you feel worse than when you started the conversation? Simply by being aware of how people can affect your moods, IF YOU ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN, can go a long way in improving your state of mind.

The most important person to be aware of is yourself and your own interactions with people. When you find yourself complaining about the weather, your boss, your spouse, your children, your parents, you get the idea – think for a moment the affect this is having on yourself and those around you. Is what you are complaining about something you can change – if so, change it. If you can’t change it, stop the negativity. You really are only adding to the problem.

Life is irreplaceable, and by wasting even a moment of it by negatively affecting yourself and others is a complete waste of time, and can actually affect your health both physically and mentally.

Make a deal with yourself that for one day, you will exclude the gossip, the negativity, and the jealousy from your conversations. If one day is too hard to start, decide to do this for half a day or an hour. Focus towards the good in your life. Everyone has something good in their lives – don’t use anything as an excuse. I would love to hear your thoughts or results from this exercise.
