Do You Love What You Do?

I want you to stop and think a moment about this question………Do You Love What You Do?

I am not asking whether you love your job, or love being a parent or a partner, but “Do You Love What You Do, and the Person You are Everyday? Can you look in the mirror and smile at the person you are looking at?

You should… Because life is precious, and you’re literally trading your precious life for what you do–moment by moment, day by day, year by year.

Think about it…

If you are unhappy with the way you spend your days, what can you do?

Given where you are now, how much good can you create for yourself? It may not be practical to resign from your job at this moment, you may not suddenly have a housekeeper appear to help you with your workload at home, your ideal partner may not come knocking at your door, but ask yourself “What can I do EACH day to make a difference in my life?”

Successful people  know and live with this notion everyday. Walt Disney once said, “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.” Walt Disney didn’t just say this one day and Disneyland appeared the next. He persevered, struggled, had set-backs, but he always, always kept his eyes on his goals and what he wanted to achieve. The most important thing Walt Disney did was to take action to create his dream. He didn’t just hope…or wish…..HE TOOK ACTION!

If you have a desire, the very fact that you have that desire means that you have the means to fulfill it. Everything in physical form was first a thought. Think back a few years, or maybe only a few months….what were some things you dreamed about doing, having, experiencing in your past that you have fulfilled now?

The Law of Vibration tells us, “What you think about, you bring about.” When you think positive thoughts, you attract positive people and circumstances to you. When you think negative thoughts, you attract negative people and circumstances. Like attracts like.

What do your thoughts say about you? More importantly what are your thoughts bringing to your life.? You may believe that your thoughts are private – that no-one else knows what you are thinking….the truth is no-one else needs to know what you are thinking – YOU DO, and with each of those persistent thoughts, you attract more of the same.

A scary thought?  Perhaps.

I believe it is empowering – knowing that I do have the ability to make changes in my life, step-by-step, day-by-day. In today’s “fast-filled” lifestyle where we expect everything should be available to us with a flick of a switch, it might be daunting to know that it may take longer than a day, or a week, or maybe even a year to bring about the changes you want in your life. But, each step is a step closer to where you want to be.

In life you are either moving forward or going backwards – you never remain static. Each step forward is progress. This is something you are doing for yourself, but the benefits will also be felt by those around you. With each step, look in the mirror, and think to yourself “I am proud of myself for doing this.”

How will this statement change your thought patterns, and more importantly what will it attract to your life?”

It just may set off a whole new chain reaction, and you may see your life in a whole new light.  While, it sounds good to say  only do what makes you happy, the reality is that in our society, we usually need to work. We all need to undertake things in our life that we may not particularly want to do. We obviously need to make money, and your job may not excite or even inspire you.

However, rather than focusing on what you don’t like about your job, what does it give you? Obviously you are paid, but what else? Does it give you personal contact with people, are you learning things from this job that can catapult you to the next step in your life? It is well worth the time to really think about this question.

It may not be your career that you would like to change – it doesn’t matter what your situation is – take a look at what you are focusing on……

Our reality is conceived by what we are prepared to look for. We only open our eyes to what we are looking for, and we hear what we are prepared to hear. Our reality is like a flashlight in a darkened room. Where we shine our light is our reality.

Imagine what we could see if we let the sun shine in to our darkened room. Why not open those curtains and let the light come in and open up a whole new world of possibilities? Who knows, you may find that

  1. This post ranks very close to my heart. People that LOVE what they do never go to work! I feel like this when it comes to our career and other things for example our exercise routine. I think when we do things we love we ultimately do them better than anyone else, stay inspired and build financial happiness.

    Loved this post, thank you….

  2. Katybeth says:

I do love what I do. I have never found it difficult to find work I enjoy–I like work and it likes me back.

  3. Sire says:

I’ve often wondered how being positive attracts other who are positive and then it came to me. No-one wants to socialise with a negative person right? And so being negative pushes positive away and only attracts negative people because they haven’t got anyone else to socialise with. This only breeds more negativity as they bitch about all those positive people. Makes a little sense doesn’t it?

    • Our thoughts are energy and can be repelled or attracted. When we have thoughts (whether positive or negative), you attract to yourself whatever you give your focus, attention, or energy to; whether wanted or unwanted.

An interesting concept – and it makes a great deal of sense to me 🙂

    • Claire says:

I like what you said Brenda and Sire! I tend to be quite negative and I attract a lot of negative people and circumstances and this has made me think thank you!

      • Brenda says:

Claire – the fact you have recognized that you can be negative is a wonderful first step. Many people take a long time to understand this, and continue to blame others or their circumstances for their outcomes.

The next step is to determine what it is you do want in your life, the type of people you would like be be around, the environment you want to be in and the type of person you would like to be.

Small steps everyday WILL make a huge difference. Best wishes on your journey. Be the change you want in your world

Great posting. As i said today on my blog, I am driven by my passions, and my passions drive me. To excel in life you have to do the things you love, they push you through even when things may get tough, they will bring you joy and empower you. Another universal law i believe in is the law of attraction, and my very favourite saying is ‘ask, believe, receive’, and those three little words have changed many people’s life.

    • Understanding those Universal Laws changed my life too…I would add one more word to your three though – ACT.

I believe that without action, our mindset alone will not do it.

      Thank you for your comments

  5. I very much loved this post. It’s all about mindset and having affirmations in life is so important. We are what we believe. For many years I was stuck in a mindless state of just existing. I always wanted more but it wasn’t until one day I decided that I could keep just doing the same thing day in and day out being miserable or I could change it. I chose to change it and never looked back. Thanks for the great post Brenda!

    April

    • Brenda says:

      Thank you April.

I agree – if you keep doing the same thing – you will get the same results. It is only when we realize that we truly have the ability to bring about changes in our life…and make those changes, that our life can turn around.

Like you, I came to that understanding many years ago, and haven’t looked back.

Welcome to Mind Recipes April, and I look forward to hearing from you again 🙂

  6. Roseanne says:

Yes, I do love what I do – I am happy with my life and the people I have chosen to be part of my life. It took many years to realize I have that choice though.

I can look in the mirror and smile at the person I see there – how special is that 🙂

  10. Rick says:

I guess I am one of the fortunate few – I do love what I do, but that was a decision I made a long time ago……..best decision ever

    • Rick – a decision and action is what it takes to achieve the life you love, and more importantly to be the person that you love as well. Enjoy the life you have created.

  11. Brandy says:

Sometimes I do, but at other times I get too focused on thing s I don’t have – something I am working on every day

  12. sheena says:

I read and re-read this post a number of times Loved your viewpoint – very outright and made me think

  13. Tony says:

Definitely love what I do. What about you?

  14. Loving what we do is the source of energy through which we can do.

I cannot imagine myself not being in love with what I do, since in most cases overcoming obstacles is essential to success and the only way I can muster the strength to overcome the obstacles is not imagining myself doing anything else.

Life is tough and business is even tougher, loving what we do is what makes it all worthwhile. If not, the whole money in the world won’t compensate for the burnout associated with routine work.

Thanks Brenda for sharing, been a while.

    How are you doing?

Blessing to you my friend, Tina

    • Brenda says:

Thank you for your comments Tina.

Our outcomes are a series of small daily decisions that accumulate into our lifetime. Sounds to me like you are prepared to make those decisions and choose the life you want.

This doesn’t mean that unexpected or unwanted events don’t occur – these happen to us all, but being aware that we can change our thoughts and actions goes a long way to improving those outcomes.

Thank you again Tina, and blessings to you also 🙂
