Are you a Sheep in the Flock?

How many of us act like we are a flock of sheep? Reading the newspapers and listening to the news about the Global Financial Crisis, an increase in crime, people having no respect for society, and then believe that there is nothing that they can do to improve their own individual circumstances because it is out of their control?

I have one comment to make on this subject. We are NOT sheep. We are human. We have a thinking brain and emotions and the ability to make decisions. This is what separates us from the animal kingdom, but it is sad to see the number of people who would rather go down the path of so many others because “everyone else is having problems too”. It’s almost like there is safety in numbers. The whole neighborhood, town, city, country are suffering, then I must have to suffer too!

According to Sister Elizabeth Kenny (1866-1952), an Australian nurse and pioneer in polio treatment “It’s better to be a lion for a day than a sheep all your life”

It is during troubled times when the lion in us all must step up, and rather than follow the flock – take the lead. Don’t look at what you can’t do about a situation. Look to what you can do. Yes, this is a generalization, and no, I don’t know your personal circumstances, but YOU do.

What is it that you can do to take the lead in your own life? Be the lion, take charge and move forward rather than surround yourself with the rest of the flock who often follow each other just because it is in their nature to do so. Let yourself “roar” for one day, feel the courage and see the difference it can make.

I know what you mean by being a sheep.

For the longest time I was one, happy to follow the herd. Until something changed. A turning point. And I tell you, it’s much more fun being a lion.

I do like the sound of my own roar!

Keep up your roaring Ivee. 🙂 Do you know what changed or when you had your turning point? I would love to hear about your experiences.

Being a sheep and following was something I did for a long time. It wasn’t until I realized that it was for their benefit and not mine that they wanted me to blindly follow (and of course) give my monthly tithing.

I have learned that I am able to do everything I was told I couldn’t. Freedom to be me is a wonderful feeling.
