Why Meditate?

Why should you meditate? Meditation has many benefits beyond just making you feel great such as increasing focus and concentration and helping you sleep better at night, read on for the full list of meditation benefits.

Below I have listed all of the benefits that meditation can bring to your life. How would you feel if you could achieve just a few of these benefits in your life right now?

Isn’t it worth your time to learn how to increase your overall health and well-being? This is not to say that meditation guarantees you good health for life. However, there is a growing awareness of the strong link between our state of mind and physical health.

Physical ailments are often symptoms of inner turmoil. Meditation can give us peace which is a helpful step in avoiding many stress related illnesses common in modern society.

Physiological Benefits

  1. Lowers oxygen consumption
  2. Blood flow is increased while slowing the heart rate. This healthier flow of oxygen to the brain assists with clearer thinking and better reasoning skills. It also assists the blood flow to the muscles which assists physical stamina.
  3. Respiratory rate is decreased
  4. Serotonin production is increased. Serotonin influences mood and behavior and low levels of serotonin are associated with depression, obesity, insomnia and headaches.
  5. Decreases stress levels
  6. Lowers high blood pressure and cholesterol levels
  7. Prevents, slows or controls pain associated with chronic diseases
  8. Decreases muscle tension and any pain associated with this tension
  9. Keeps mental faculties sharp and slows down the effects of aging on the brain and body
  10. Assists in post-operative healing
  11. Enhances the immune system by increasing the activity of your body’s natural immunity cells which destroy bacteria and possibly cancer cells
  12. Reduces pre-menstrual syndrome symptoms

    My life was such a shambles. I felt so sorry for myself, and these articles have helped me realize that if I want things to change I have to change some of the things I was doing. It’s a bit of a slow process – one step forward and 3 steps back sometimes, but at least I have changed a couple of things. Thank you
